Building Streams
Figure 5-5
Connected nodes
When connecting nodes , there are severa l gu idelines to follow. You will receive an error mes sage
if you attempt to m ake any of the following types o f connections:
A connection leading to a source node
A connection leading from a terminal node
A node having more than its maximum number of input connectio ns
Connecting two nodes that are already connected
Circu larity (data retur ns to a node from which it has already owed)
Bypassing Nodes in a Stream
When you bypass a node in the data stream, all of its input and output con nections are replaced by
connec tions that lead directly f r om its input nodes to its output nodes. If the node does not have
both input and output connections, then all of its connec tions are deleted rather than rerout ed .
For example, you might have a stream that derives a new e ld, lters elds, and t he n e xplores
the results in a histogram and table. If you wan t to also view the same graph an d table for data
before elds are ltered, you can add either new Histogram and Table nodes to the stream, or you
can bypass the Filter node. When y ou bypass the Filter n ode, the connections to the g r aph and
table pass directly from the Derive node. The F ilter node is disconnected from the stream.

To Bypass a Node
E On the stream ca nvas, use th e middle mouse button to dou ble-click the node that you want to
