diskdrive.Theharddiskdrivecanbereplacedforascheduledfee.

Supervisorpassword
AsupervisorpasswordprotectsthesysteminformationstoredintheThinkPadSetup.Theusermustenter
thesupervisorpasswordinordertogetaccesstotheThinkPadSetupandchangethesystemconguration.
Attention:Ifthesupervisorpasswordhasbeenforgottenandcannotbemadeavailabletotheservice
technician,thereisnoserviceproceduretoresetthepassword.Thesystemboardmustbereplacedfor
ascheduledfee.
Howtoremovethepower-onpassword
Toremovethepower-onpassword,dooneofthefollowing:
(A)Ifnosupervisorpasswordhasbeenset,dothefollowingtoremovethepower-onpassword:
1.T urnoffthecomputer.
2.Removethebatterypack.Forinstructionsonhowtoremovethebatterypack,see“1010Battery
pack”onpage50.
3.Removethebackupbattery.Forinstructionsonhowtoremovethebackupbattery,see“1130System
boardassembly,fanassembly,andbackupbattery”onpage65.
4.T urnonthecomputerandwaituntilthePOSTends.AfterthePOSTends,thepasswordpromptwillnot
bedisplayed.Thepower-onpasswordhasbeenremoved.
5.Reinstallthebackupbatteryandthebatterypack.
(B)Ifasupervisorpasswordhasbeensetandisknowntotheservicetechnician,dothefollowingtoremove
thepower-onpassword:
1.T urnonthecomputer.
2.WhentheThinkPadlogoisdisplayed,,immediatelypressF1toenterThinkPadSetup.
3.SelectSecurity.
4.SelectPassword.
5.SelectPower-OnPassword.
6.T ypethecurrentsupervisorpasswordintheEnterCurrentPasswordeld.ThenleavetheEnter
NewPasswordeldblank,andpressEntertwice.
7.IntheChangeshavebeensavedwindow,pressEnter.
8.PressF10tosavechangesandexittheThinkPadSetupprogram.
Howtoremovethehard-diskpassword
Attention:IfUseronlymodeisselectedandtheuserharddiskpasswordhasbeenforgottenandcannot
bemadeavailabletotheservicetechnician,neitherLenovonorLenovoauthorizedservicetechnicians
provideanyservicestoresettheuserharddiskpasswordortorecoverdatafromtheharddiskdrive.The
harddiskdrivecanbereplacedforascheduledfee.
Toremoveauserharddiskpasswordthathasbeenforgotten,whenthesupervisorpasswordandthemaster
harddiskpasswordareknown,dothefollowing:
